...But let's come back down to earth for now. Today, I am reviewing the Friendz portable speaker, by a company called Music Angel. The main selling point for the speaker is the fact that you can daisy chain speakers along, giving you a possibility to extend your sound across a hallway, house, or classroom. You shouldn't need to do that for smaller rooms, though; as the speaker is very powerful. It's not going to be concert loud, but for someone who's just doing work on their computer or in the garden or something like that, it's absolutely perfect.The quality is amazing too, even at high volumes the speakers don't buzz and distort like several others. The bass isn't head-throbbingly huge, but it's not absent. Same for high tones: not ear-splittingly loud, instead it rounds out both very nicely. Everything from Pink Floyd to Zedd to Aphex Twin sounded amazing.
Build quality is above and beyond, it's a strong aluminum casing that can withstand numerous amounts of abuse. That strength doesn't even come at a price or beauty, the blue light below refracts very nicely, spreading a blue glow onto your surface the speaker rests on. Charging isn't even a problem, the speaker takes a simple 5 volts over standard Micro USB. Your phone's charger will charge this! What's really cool is that the USB port on the device will take audio and power simultaneously. The light underneath will also change colour; if the light is red, it is charging. If the light is purple, it is charging while turned on .The light will return to a blue/off state when the battery has charged fully.
Speaking of battery, how long will the battery last? The manual claims that the battery will last anywhere from 15 to 120 hours. That's a pretty wide range of time... However, I am currently testing this. When the battery dies (It's good practice to let the battery die before charging it, to avoid creating a battery memory.), I will recharge it fully, timing how long it takes. I will then run the speaker constantly until it dies again, timing again. I will update this section with my result. However, since arrival on the 18th, I've used the speaker almost constantly, and the battery has not died from its initial charge yet. (This is current as of July 24th.)
Disappointments are very few in number. There's no volume control on the device, so you will have to control it at the device or software. This shouldn't be too much of a problem, but it is still slightly annoying.
Final thoughts: This speaker is a very marvelous speaker for portable occasions, whether you're doing desk work at the office or just doing some gardening. Sound and design are amazing. The price is also very pleasing, you can find this speaker for $38 at MobileFun.com. Find it here!
